Multi-agent Negotiation for Distributed Production Scheduling Problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
We extend our previous work of applying automated negotiation to two self-interested agents each with a local but linked production scheduling problem by including multiple agents. To this end, we first present a negotiation protocol built on existing work in the multi-agent negotiation literature before turning to upgrade the two negotiation strategies proposed in the previous work. The first strategy concedes on utility, based on an approach widely used in the negotiation literature. The second strategy concedes in a metric space while maximizing an agent’s local utility. Experimental results show that on small local problem instances, the metric-space negotiation strategy outperforms its utilitybased counterpart on both agreement quality and computational effort, a finding consistent with previous ones.

A Hybrid Modeling for Continuous Casting Scheduling Problem
This paper deals with a multi-agent-based interval type-2 fuzzy (IT2F) expert systemfor scheduling steel continuous casting. Continuous caster scheduling is a complex and extensiveprocess that needs expert staff. In this study, a distributed multi-agent-based structure is proposed as asolution. The agents used herein can cooperate with each other via various communication protocols. To facilitat...

We tackle the challenge of applying automated negotiation to self-interested agents with local but linked combinatorial optimization problems. Using distributed production scheduling problems in the context of supply chain management, we first present a negotiation protocol built on existing work in the multi-agent negotiation literature. Then, we propose two negotiation strategies for making c...
متن کاملNegotiation Strategy for a Distributed Resolution of Real Time Production Management Problems
Real world manufacturing environments are highly dynamic because of frequently changing situations. Deterministic mechanisms using a centralized control mechanism cannot handle the system dynamics. Agent-based approaches are particularly suitable for dynamic manufacturing scheduling. This paper proposes a negotiation approach based on multiagent system for complex manufacturing systems. The loc...
متن کاملAgent-based Fuzzy Constraint-directed Negotiation Mechanism for Planning and Scheduling in Supply Chain
This paper presents an agent-based fuzzy constraintdirected negotiation mechanism for planning and scheduling in supply chain. The supply chain scheduling problem is modeled as a set of fuzzy constraint satisfaction problems (FCSPs), interlinked together by inter-agent constraints. For converging each distinct firm’s interests, the conflicts among the set of FCSPs are resolved through negotiati...
متن کاملScheduling via Agent Negotiation : A Fuzzy Constraint-based Approach
This work presents a general framework for modeling a distributed scheduling problem via fuzzy constraint-based agent negotiation. Fuzzy constraints, in this way, are used not only to represent the requirements that jobs being scheduled must satisfy, but also to specify the possibilities prescribing to what extent the solutions are suitable for scheduling to rank the solutions. Furthermore, fuz...
